Adrian is the best of the Morellis. He is the ultimate fixer, bodyguard, and hitman. He's one of my favorite characters from this series, and I love that he got his own book.

I've been waiting for this book since the first of the series, Accidental Witness, came out. In Accidental Witness and Surviving Mateo, Adrian seemed to be the reluctant right hand of Mateo Morelli. He is scarred, quiet, brooding, and watches everything and everyone, almost as obsessively as Mateo. I couldn't wait to get his story and learn what happened in his past, why he was so drawn to Elise, and why his and Mateo's relationship was so strained.

Once Burned started off with one of the saddest prologues. You learn why Adrian is scarred, why he feels his life wasn't worth anything, and why at 28 he fell for a 16 year old girl who showed him kindness.

You also learn that Adrian is incredibly intelligent, kind, and loving. He puts the needs or wants of others above his own, and he protects his friends and makeshift family, even when they don't deserve it. The love Adrian has for Elise (even though at first it seems she doesn't quite care for him the same way) is the kind of love anyone would love to have. He sacrifices 5 years of his life for her, and she unknowingly saves his life during that time.

This was the such a needed love story among all the chaos and drama. I can't wait for book 4 to come out so I can read all about Francesca. I hope Sam Mariano continues to write about the Morellis, because they are incredibly addictive.

This review has spoilers so pass over if that is a problem for you. First off, I had mixed emotions with the first book, Accidental Witness with Mateo raping Mia but through manipulation and brain washing she falls in love with him, yet stays with Vince. I almost didn’t download the second book, Surviving Mateo, but was glad I did because I really like Megan who was a strong character and could stand up to Mateo. She knew something had happened between Mateo and Mia but throughout the book it really seemed that Mateo fell hard for Meg. There was flirting and eye-f****** going on between Mateo and Mia that I didn’t care for but I thought Mateo fell hard for Meg so I was willing to overlook the open disrespect. Now the third book, Once Burned, may be the last book I read because I’m now so disgusted with Mateo and Mia. Each book starts off exactly where the other leaves off so when Mateo asked Meg to marry him in Surviving Mateo, Meg was shot and fighting for her life in the hospital Mateo literally went with no sleep and wouldn’t leave her bedside until she wakes. Now as Meg is still recovering in Once Burned, Mateo was rescuing Mia, which happened to take place in a hotel room, lust explodes, making them want to f*** once again and couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Now, let’s repeat – Mateo asked Meg to marry him, stays by her beside until she’s out of harm’s way and while Meg is on bedrest Mateo and Mia is at a hotel wanting to f*** - What the heck Sam Mariano, Megan deserves better than Mateo and Mia's disrespect and infidelity. She deserves his faithfulness because he loves her and for no other reason. I believe this will be the last book for me....

Adrian and Elise's story is sweet and romantic! The Morelli family is unconventional, to say the least, but you won't be able to resist their charm!

I loved this book better then the second book! This series is not dull at all (except Megs story) I didn't think I would like the side characters story this much but Sam just pulls you right in.
This is arguably the sweetest story among all of Sam Mariano's books. There is a shade of Beauty and the Beast, but true to a Sam Mariano story, with a twist.

Adrian is such a strong character. He's loyal, smart and gets the job done. He falls for a young girl he wants to save but doesn't believe he deserves her.

Elise is an enigma. She made the best of her circumstances after she moved in with the Morellis. There is an innocence to her for growing up sheltered in the Morelli household. I think she is a strong character but Adrian overshadows her.

Overall, I love this book. If you are just starting the series, you should read them in order. I guarantee you will be hooked and will start picking sides/teams.
