I read this book ages ago and before I began doing reviews. I've been going through the many books I've purchased by this author and rereading them. This one was in my favourites file but I've decided that although it's good, it's not that good. There were some funny moments along the way and the secondary character, Lady Danby, steals the show a little. The main characters were nice enough and the story idea is a good one but there was a little something missing. There are loads of summaries so I'll just say that it's worth reading and I might go back and buy the first book in the series now.Tags : How to Marry a Marquis (Avon Romantic Treasure) [Julia Quinn] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Regency romance with sex on practically the last page.
This the 2nd of the "Agents Of The Crown" series & Blake & Caroline do make an appearance in this one.
Also, Lady Danbury, who practically raised our hero. Dunford also is in it briefly. Our hero James, is Lady Danbury's favorite nephew. Elizabeth our heroine is her ladies companion, mostly due to the fact I think Lady Danbury feels sorry for her & wants her to keep her pride.
I liked this one! Another enjoyable story from JQ.
After being utterly disappointed with Splendid, I was thrilled to read another winner by Julia Quinn. I loved the lead characters and their love felt genuine. I would have loved to hear about the Hotchkiss family moving from their cottage into their new home with Riverdale. I also would have enjoyed seeing the wedding and hearing about the birth of at least one child. Nevertheless, any story with Lady Dansbury has never disappointed me. I'd love to hear Lady Dansbury's story of love and marriage some day. We did, after all, finally get to learn how Violet Bridgerton met her prince.
Oh dear, this was one of the least favourite of Ms Quinn's novels. Most HEA romance novels have a similar thread and this is no different, except that it was very predictable from the first. Then came Elizabeth, all I will say is she was a hypocrite and surely the saying 'Pride goeth before a fall'. I was so annoyed by this shallow and two faced female. Also I was surprised by the use of modern 'talk' Save it!!! Plus these earlier books could do with a good editor. And would someone please tell me why the words through comes out as though and tilted becomes titled in nearly every kindle book I have read and there are more, but wont bore you.
This is another great JQ read. With lots of her humor. Our heroine Elizabeth is just making ends meet when she stumbled across a 'Silly' book HOW TO MARRY A MARQUIS. James, a Marquis undercover, has come to his aunts aid when she confides that she is being blackmailed. Secrets and needs collide as the two team up to find the blackmailer, train Elizabeth to catch a Marquis, and try not to fall in love with each other. If you have read the Bridgerton's series (my favorite) then this is a must as Lady Danbury is in her glory in this one. I do recommend reading How to Catch and Heiress first.
I was looking forward to this story because of the previous book that introduced James. I'm not sure it lived up to his previous character. The story was okay but it's a little hard to really love the heroine since she almost seems to be unable to come to grips with her pride. She wasn't going to admit, even to herself, that she was putting her pride ahead of everything, even love. I would have liked her to resolve that when she resolved matters with James.
I read a lot of romance novels from this time period and sometimes fall upon a great writer. Julia Quinn is my favorite writer. When I need an uplift, I turn to one of her stories. How to Marry a Marquis is one of my favorite stories. It's light and funny, but has a great story line. The characters are so well developed, it is just a delight to read. As a matter of fact. I have read this more than once! I just love everything she writes. So if you are looking for a great book, this is the one. I own all of Julia Quinns stories. If you looking for a great dependable author, look no further than Julia Quinn. A side note. This book is better if you read How to Marry and Heiress. The main character of How to Marry a Marquis shows up in this book before How to Marry a Marquis. Enjoy them both! I did!
I just love Julia Quinn - some of the other authors have way to many explicit sexual scenes and that becomes what their books are all about. They pretty much amount to porn. But not Julia Quinn. She writes hopeful love stories and weaves wonderful stories that really portray true human emotions about self-doubt, misconceptions about others and insecurities that we all experience. Julia writes about reality that we still face today, worrying about money and how we're going to get by, people who act maliciously and hateful; people who have integrity and honor and her love scenes are not so graphic as to be in bad taste. Her novels are written perfectly.
