British Intelligence agent Peter Stoller is at the top of his game. He's next in line to run the Agency but is comfortable with the position he's in. The single ladies at work vie for his affection, but it is a cab driver by the name of Charles who draws Peter's attention. Their relationship progresses swiftly, and when Charles is brought in for possible treason, Peter helps him escape. They run off together, but Peter wonders how well he truly knows Charles. Will following his heart over his head be the death of him?An incredibly written story of intrigue, love, and betrayal. The one thing that always hooks me is great characterization. This book is rich with it. Peter Stoller is an immensely intelligent and observant man with a strong moral code, and he's also very subtle. Don't expect someone who is in your face or seeking an action-packed adventure. With Peter's narration, the reader is lead through gripping scenes high with tension, where the quiet makes it even more provocative. I wondered with Peter about Charles' loyalties and those of his colleagues and felt my heart twist with each turn in the plot. The whole cast of characters is thick with layers. Two of my favorites being Simeon and Gamby.
I found it difficult to put my ereader down as each chapter beckoned me on to the next. There is a little quirkiness to the style which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it fits a man like Peter. I highly recommend The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller to everyone, not just the suspense and spy thriller fans.

The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller eBook M Pepper Langlinais Reviews
This is the first time I’ve read a ‘Spy’ book. I wasn't sure I’d enjoy it at first; it took me until around the 10% mark to really get into it. (My own fault, I think; I should have read the blurb again before I started. After all it does say the story is a cross genre of love and spy mystery!)
Written by M Pepper Langlinais the book is divided between sometime in the 1940s and in the 1960s; so I felt it important to try to remember what I knew of the social and political eras.
What struck me most about the whole of the book is the way the author writes from the protagonist’s, Peter Stoller’s, point of view; the way the story is told by him, the internal dialogue, his thought processes, and his internal body language, which reveals so much of his emotions. I've never read a book where so much of the protagonist is revealed in such minute detail.
There are a lot of characters in this book and, sometimes, because of this, I initially found them quite confusing and I had to flick back to see where I’d read of them before. As the story unfolded, though, I began to recognise each from the author’s way of subtly adding in a short description of a characteristic.
The dialogue defines each character most of the time and the language and slang within the dialogue excellently reveals Britain at the time.
The settings, both of the Castle, where the British Intelligence offices are, the various places of residences, and the countries the characters move around in, are well described and kept me interested in the action, although I sometimes found the pace a little slow.
Would I recommend The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller? Yes, I think I would, to all readers who enjoy this genre.
The plot was as unique as it gets. I pray that there will be a sequel.
Looking for complex characters, unexpected plot twists, and tautly sustained suspense? M Pepper Langlinais delivers in the Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller. In Peter, Langlinais creates an intelligent and engaging protagonist whose fate readers will care about. The author skillfully tightens the web of intrigue until you can't turn the pages fast enough!
An engaging, smart thriller, reminiscent of the James Bond novels. Set in 1960s London, this book gives the reader a glimpse into spy-vs-spy intrigue, where no one and nothing is to be trusted, especially Peter's own heart. M Pepper Langlinais' descriptions put the reader smack in the time and place. I found myself wanting to dust my own apartments for prints and listening devices. If you enjoy tales of international espionage, you must meet Peter Stoller!
The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller was an unexpected delight. First of all, the whole John le Caree is not my usually go to genre. But Peter made a believer out of me. I love that the plot centers around a gay man in a time and place where simply being who he was was illegal. Yet the story is not centered around Peter's sexuality. Instead his sexual orientation informs his life and character just as being male or female, black or white, gay or straight, defines any of us. No, this is a story about espionage, intrigue, betrayal, and the effect that our friendships, loves, our very humanity have upon our own falls, and rises, in our own lives.
Really, really a fun ride- I'm ready for the movie!!!
