This book is simply waaaaay excellent and thorough. It covers every important aspect of Hungarian grammar and gives many examples and practice opportunities. It can be a bit intimidating, just like Hungarian itself--the first 110 or so pages are devoted to verbs and different tenses. I consider myself an advanced beginner and after 4 or 5 weeks, I'm already on page 45-with almost daily practice, and can now conjugate the indefinite and definite present tense forms by memory. This book, I'd say is for anybody who wants to learn Hungarian to at least the intermediate level. It is extremely detailed and is written completely in Hungarian and English. I'm 59, a language buff, and I want to learn this "Cadillac of languages" in my opinion-(Hungarian is incredibly complex but beautiful)-to the intermediate level-IF that is possible for me-lol!!! However, if it is indeed possible to learn Hungarian to the level I want to--it will be due to this book. Very colorful cover and appealing( and DETAILED!!!) layout throughout the book.Product details

A Practical Hungarian Grammar with Glossary S Szita 9789630589338 Books Reviews
An excellent book....since the 50's, I have wanted to become fluent in Hungarian but courses were almost non-obtainable. Now there are so many excellent books it is great for me. However, you can note my age will not allow me to travel to Hungary. I only wished I could have obtained these books then! I find Hungarian to be one of the most interesting languages in Europe!! These books give a thorough insight into Hungarian!
Very competent and thorough with plenty of exercises, but lacks a vocabulary. Thus the reader needs a separate dictionary which is much more cumbersome. Also it mentions a "glossary", but I never found it.
I highly recommend this book both for students and teachers of Hungarian. I have been using it with my students ever since it came out. My students generally rave about it They find the material relevant, clear, well-written, and the practice parts fun (no small achievement when it comes to grammar!)
It's also a great source for those who are learning the language on their own. The book covers the entire Hungarian grammar in small, manageable chapters. A typical chapter consists of a one page long explanation of the particular grammar topic and another one or two pages of practice - everything is conveniently at the same place so you don't have to go back and forth if you need reference. This structure makes it easy to use and prevents it from becoming overwhelming. The explanations are clear and concise with good examples to demonstrate usage.
The exercises challenge the learner grammar wise and they use simple, everyday vocabulary that reflects the colloquial language so you can actually see yourself saying the sentences in real life. It's a big plus that it comes with a glossary, grammar charts, and index - they make it simple to navigate in the book. Last but not least, it's a good-looking book the illustrations are beautifully done, some of the little drawings are miniature works of art!
This is a rather in depth book on the Hungarian language. Problem is that unless you already have
an intermediate knowledge of the Hungarian language, this book will be useless for you. A lot of things that
really need translating for an English speaker learning Hungarian are not translated, but, rather, just in Hungarian.
If you are a beginner in the Hungarian language, this is not the book for you.
